Thessalon Ultrasound Machine Funded Thanks to Generous Donation
Thessalon, ON — September 30, 2025 — The North Shore Health Network Foundation (NSHNF) is proud to announce an enhancement to diagnostic care at the North Shore Health Network (NSHN) Thessalon Site, thanks to the generosity of a grateful patient. Through an anonymous donation, the Thessalon Site has received funding for a new, state-of-the-art ultrasound machine that will support the growing demand for local diagnostic services.
Ultrasound services first became available at the Thessalon Site in April 2024, beginning with one clinic day per week. In response to increasing demand, in October 2024 service expanded to two days per week – Tuesdays and Thursdays. Since launching, 864 exams have been completed. NSHN continues to monitor volumes to assess the need for additional clinic days.
“Providing ultrasound services closer to home has already had a tremendous impact on our community,” said Tim Vine, NSHN President & CEO. “Patients no longer have to travel long distances for their diagnostic needs, and we are grateful to the generous donor whose contribution will continue to improve care in Thessalon.”
From a clinical perspective, the addition has transformed patient care. “By having ultrasound services in Thessalon, our healthcare providers in the ER can now refer patients directly for ultrasound,” said Dr. Amy Vine, Emergency Room Physician at the Thessalon Site. “This new access significantly improves the speed and efficiency of care for our patients.”
“The expansion of ultrasound services in Thessalon is just one example of how local donor support helps enhance healthcare in our network,” said Charlyn Beneteau, Development Officer at the North Shore Health Network Foundation. Amanda LaBrash, Chair of the NSHNF, added, “we encourage our communities along the North Shore to continue supporting the Foundation so that we can make these vital improvements to keep local healthcare within reach together.”
This generous donation is part of NSHNF’s ongoing Capital Plan, which supports essential equipment across all three NSHN sites. In fact, this donor has funded all of the current Thessalon Site equipment needs for this year – an investment totaling $250,000. Still, many vital pieces of equipment remain on the NSHN Capital Plan, and the Foundation is committed to raising funds needed to ensure high-quality, local healthcare remains within reach.
